Cannot access disk in floppy drive due to disk needs reformatted.
Cause:
The disk in the floppy drive needs to be reformatted.
Solution:
Reformat the diskette.
1) Make sure that the write-protect tab on the diskette is in the write position so the disk is able to be formatted.
a) On a 5 1/4 inch disk, make sure that nothing is covering the write protect slot.
b) On a 3 1/2 inch disk, locate the write-protect slider and move the slider so that no hole is showing.
2) Insert the diskette into the appropriate drive.
NOTE: If the drive contains a door latch, make sure the door latch is close completely.
3) Format the diskette in Windows:
a) Double-click the 'My Computer' icon. (The 'My Computer' window appears.)
b) Select the appropriate floppy drive.
c) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Format...'. (The 'Format' dialog box appears.)
d) In the 'Capacity' drop-down list box, select the size of the floppy diskette.
e) Select a format type:
1] Select the 'Quick (erase)' radio button to erase a disk that was previously formatted.
2] Select the 'Full' radio button to format a new diskette that has never been formatted. This option also detects bad sectors.
3] Select the 'Copy system files only' radio button if the disk is formatted and you wish to make a system diskette.
f) Do one of the following:
1] Type a drive label in the 'Label' box. (The label may be up to 11 characters - 8 characters with a 3-character extension.)
2] Select the 'No Label' check box to format a drive without a label. (A label can be added at a later date.)
g) (Optional) Select the 'Display summary when finished' check box to display a dialog box with disk information after the format is complete. This option will identify bad sectors, disk capacity, and other disk information.
h) (Optional) Select the 'Copy system files' check box to enable Windows 95 to place systems files on the diskette while it is being formatted.
i) Click 'Start' to begin formatting.
j) If necessary, click 'Close' to close the 'Format Results' dialog box.
k) Click 'Close' to close the 'Format' dialog box.
